DAVIDSON-The time has come to perk up the coffee pot

Last Tuesday, town council gave its support to participate in a project to restore Davidson's roadside attraction to its former beauty.

The need to look at maintenance and restoration of the community landmark began brewing last year. Interest and feelings of pride in the coffee pot renewed after

Canada Post commissioned a stamp that will feature the coffee pot. The stamp will be released this summer.

The coffee pot has stood up well to the elements, however, the painted murals are fading and the metal is rusted in some spots.

To ensure the coffee pot continues to symbolize local hospitality a community committee is being established tasked with taking care of the coffee pot.

Mayor Mary Jane Morrison said community organizations are interested in helping out and the town has received a private donation to help with restoration costs.
She said there is a general consensus that the coffee pot needs to be repainted in some way. First it requires prep. work, perhaps sandblasting the rust spots.

Then the committee will have to explore options and costs for restoring the murals.

Morrison said they have spoken with the artist, who originally painted the murals, but the artist isn't interested in painting the murals onto the pot.
She said they would look at other options.

"We need to look at costs and have this be as long-term as possible and easy for the community to keep doing for as long as they want," Morrison said.

She said the coffee pot restoration will be an ongoing project and it is unlikely to be completed this year.
