Crime Spree Comes to Crashing Halt

DAVIDSON-A rural crime spree crashed to a halt in mid-December after criminals took a turn too quickly in Davidson.

While evading police, a pickup truck hit the ditch at the intersection of Railway Avenue and King Edward Street and served up two suspects into the hands of a waiting Craik RCMP officer.

One of the suspects pleaded guilty last week and was sentenced to two years plus a day in federal prison in Prince Albert.
The prison term is a result of an arrest made in Davidson on Dec. 14.

Two men from Saskatoon were apprehended just after the R.M. of Arm River shop in Davidson had been broken into, Corp. Gary Bonneau of Craik RCMP told the Davidson police committee last Wednesday.

It was late at night and an RCMP constable, unaware of the break-in at the R.M. shop, saw a truck driving on Railway Avenue and attempted to stop it. The truck ignored the cruiser but took the turn onto King Edward Street too fast and ended up in the ditch by the fire hall, Bonneau said.

The truck was alleged to have been stolen from the Imperial area. In the back of the truck were tools that were stolen from the R.M. of Arm River shop on Railway Avenue.

Bonneau said the arrest helped police clear up outstanding break and enter files throughout south central Saskatchewan including cases in Wakaw, Watrous, Outlook and Craik.
