KENASTON SK-There were plenty of hugs last Thursday for "G.G."

This is what Annie Nizinkevich's great-grandchildren call her as the run to greet their beloved family matriarch with a hug and a kiss.

Great-grandchildren, other family and many friends of Annie gathered at the Adam's Centre in Kenaston to throw the community matriarch a 90th birthday party.
It was a simple affair with coffee, birthday cake and plenty of birthday wishes.

Annie's friends wanted to throw her a little party because Nizinkevich has been an important part of the community.

She has spent all her 90 years in the Kenaston district. She was raised on the family homestead 15 miles east of Kenaston and remained in the area after her marriage to Mike. They have three children Wayne, Frank and Diane.

She is well-known throughout the district for her legendary green thumb.
Although she is no longer able to drive, Annie keeps tabs on the community walking uptown in Kenaston for coffee and visits.
"Annie has been an important part of the community for her whole life," said Agatha Rupcich, adding that at the age of 90, Annie remains a dynamic individual.
Glen Pavelich was happy to attend Annie's birthday party.

When Pavelich first moved to Kenaston, she says Annie was one of her first friends and helped the newcomer establish a garden.
"Most of my garden came from Annie's," Pavelich says of Annie's willingness to share her expertise and her plants with a fellow gardening enthusiast.
