DAVIDSON-The Davidson Raiders mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter to defeat the Hanley Sabers 39-33 in senior girls basketball action Thursday.
The Raiders were off to a slow start trailing the Sabers 13-9 after the first quarter. Hanley came into the Raiders' gym ready to play and took the lead early, thanks to success at the free-throw line.
Jensen Block and Erin Anderson each made trips to the line and made good on their attempts, leading the Sabers in scoring for the quarter.
After a brief break, Davidson regrouped, holding Hanley to four points in the second quarter while they made up ground by scoring 9 points to take a one-point, 18-17 lead at the half.
Hanley came back in the third with Erin Anderson and Block leading the way, regaining a 29-27 lead.
In the fourth quarter the Raiders stepped up the attack, pressuring Hanley into committing costly turnovers. Davidson, meanwhile, kept their mistakes to a minimum, dominating the quarter scoring 12 points to Hanley's 4 for the 39-33 win.
Block led the Sabers in scoring with 16 points while Erin Anderson scored 10 points. Jessie Evashenko and Brooke Anderson chipped in with 4 and 3 points respectively.
Scoring was spread around on the Raiders' side of the game sheet. Hayley Willner scored 10 points with Jacklyn Storey and Cayla O'Brien each contributing 6 points and Tabitha Woodman, Karlie Diebel and Sidney Willner each adding 4 points to the score.
