MOOSE JAW-Thursday, Prairie South School Division announced it has hired Jeff Finell as its new director of education/chief executive officer.
Finell, who works as Prairie South's superintendent of human resources, will replace current director of education Brenda Edwards when she retires at the end of August.
Prairie South School Division stretches from south of Girvin to the U.S. border and operates 40 schools including Craik School.
Ratepayers of the now defunct Davidson School Division may remember Finell as Davidson division's last director of education. It was about five years ago when he held that job before the provincial government amalgamated rural school divisions.
In a news release announcing Finell's selection for Prairie South's top job, Ron Gleim, board chairman, says "Jeff has contributed broadly to communities where he has worked. Clearly, he knows the importance of active involvement in the community where he lives."
Gleim states that, "Jeff has told us he believes a school division exists for the children...All decision making should be centred on the students and their communities and it seems appropriate, given the challenges of funding and enrolments that school divisions need to challenge the status quo, to investigate alternatives to how and what we have been doing."
Finell and his wife live in Moose Jaw.
