DAVIDSON - Rain over the weekend left many people in the area scrambling to clear their flooded or damp basements.
Employees at Davidson Home Hardware said they'd seen an overflow of customers looking for sump pumps, dehumidifiers, and Shop-Vacs following the unusually heavy rainfall.
"The water table seems to be a little higher," said one saleswoman, who added that there was "not a sump pump to be seen" in the store.
She said that the old wives' tale about rain coming 90 days after a fog appeared to be "dead on." The store awaits their next shipment of sump pumps and continues to see a high demand for water removal equipment.
Meanwhile, town administrator Gary Edom said he expected the rain would result in some flooding, although he had yet to receive any complaints on the subject.
"No news is good news for me," he said.
