Kadlec
- Emil Louis "Lou" passed away peacefully on July 10, 2010 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, Sask.
Lou is remembered by family and friends as a kind and hard-working man. He served in the Air Force in WWII and was very proud of his service, often saying "it took 100 of us on the ground to keep one plane in the air."
Following the war, he married Mollie Ross and settled on the farm at Bladworth, where together they raised their four children, Dale, Ross, Shannon and Gayle.
After moving to Davidson in 1973, Lou and Mollie travelled on many holidays and enjoyed spending winters in a warmer climate. Lou spent many hours at the pool hall, otherwise known as his office. He loved teasing and had an unstoppable sense of humor but was always there when he was needed.
He was a founding member of the Davidson Credit Union and served for more than 20 years. He was also a long-time member of the Co-op board.
Family was very important to him. When Lou's family got together there was music from his fiddle, laughing and dancing. If there wasn't a card game going on, he would be watching a Blue Jay's game.
He was devastated with the illness and loss of his wife Mollie and then he met Helen. They were inseparable and it was wonderful to see them together. Helen and Lou enjoyed many trips to visit family and friends. A day never passed that humor and laughter didn't accompany them.
Lou is survived by his loving family: wife, Helen, children Ross (Marion), Shannon (Don), Gayle, Helen's daughter Julie (Lloyd); 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and numerous other family members. He was predeceased by his first wife Mollie, son Dale and granddaughter Kristine (Julie's daughter). For friends so wishing, memorials in memory of Lou may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society. The Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 13, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Davidson, Sask.
Lou will be missed by all who knew him.
Nizinkevich
- Annie left this world peacefully in the dawn breaking hours of July 7, 2010 at the Davidson Health Centre where she had resided for a brief two and one-half months.
Annie was born on January 5, 1920 to Mary (nee Pillipow) and Fred Byke in the rural area called Horseshoe Lake east of Kenaston. She attended Horseshoe Lake School completing her Grade Eight. Life was hard and Annie learned her hard work ethics at a very early age. She worked as a housekeeper and farm labourer for several families in the community until she met and married Michael Florian Nizinkevich on July 4, 1943. They moved to the farm and began raising their family and building their life together.
Wayne Michael was born on Oct. 29, 1944, Frank Robert was born on Oct. 28, 1945 and Diane Louise was born on Nov. 16, 1950. Annie had a love for the land like no one I've ever known. Her greatest joy was toiling in her garden and making things grow. She had the greenest thumb. She could make anything grow and just had a sixth sense on how much to water or what that plant needed. She would save egg shells and coffee grounds and who knows what else to put on her garden to rejuvenate the soil. She was "green" long before anyone else was. Her gardens on the farm seemed to be everywhere. Friends and neighbours never left our yard without some of her bountiful garden, either a bag full or a trunk full. Kids usually got a handful of sweet peas or a bouquet of glads. Many a bouquet of flowers were gathered from her garden for the altar at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Kenaston. She had her own little welcome wagon when someone new would move to town. She would deliver a bag of fresh produce to the new folks as her way of saying welcome.
Annie had so many talents. Sewing had to be her favourite. She sewed all her daughters clothes until she left home. She would sew Barbie clothes for her daughter's friends for their birthdays. In her later years she became a "master patcher". She could put a blue jean zipper in almost in her sleep.
People would hang grocery bags on her door knob with instructions on how to fix it and she would quickly repair it and anxiously await their return. It became a social thing for Annie. Crocheting and quilting were other passions of Annie's. She has crocheted hundreds of doilies and tablecloths and many, many afghans. She always had a project on the go. You rarely, if ever, found her sitting idle watching TV without her crochet hook moving in her hand.
I tried to think of one word to describe my mother and "spunky" came to mind. She had a sharp tongue if you crossed her and she would not hesitate to let you know what she thought. But on the other side she would do anything for you if you asked.
Annie's greatest joy were her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren. Her brightest days were when her grandchildren stopped in for a visit. She would love to have her great-grandchildren rush into her arms with a bear hug for "GG".
Annie is survived by her loving family: children, Frank (Barbara) Nizinkevich, Kenaston, Diane (Bill) Wall of Fillmore, and daughter-in-law Linda Nizinkevich, Kenaston; grandchildren, Michelle (Aaron) Ringdal, Joanne (Ken Premech), Susan (Shane) Mamer, Robert Nizinkevich (MacKenzie Kadlec), Angie (Dan) Courtney, Ryan (Shelley) Nizinkevich, Sherry and Melissa Nizinkevich, Greg (Jodie) Wall, David Wall and Dana (Jason) Wall-Smith; and great-grandchildren, Brodie, Sierra and Kash Ringdal, Christopher Premech, Adyson and Ayden Mamer, Hailey Courtney, Brandon and Shawn Nizinkevich, and Ethan, Kiera and Ryker Wall.
Annie was predeceased by her mother and father, Fred and Mary Byke; husband Michael in 1983; son Wayne (Feb. 23, 2010), brothers, Bill (1994), Andrew (1977), Pete (1957), Mike (1980) and John (2006); and sisters, Mary (1995) and Olga (1983).

Howard
-
On Friday morning, May 21, as the rising sun shone on the dew-covered grass outside the window of Davidson Health Centre, Paul Kenneth Howard silently drew his last breath with his wife Verona and step-daughters Catherine and Karen by his bedside.
Paul was born in Ohio on August 15, 1934. On completing high school, he served in the U.S. Military for some time in Germany. He then worked with a shipping company where he spent time in Japan.
Early in his first marriage he built, entirely by hand, a log house in Washington. In this marriage he had two step-daughters and his pride and joy Tony was born.
His move to Brentwood, California found him driving a semi which he did until retirement and coming to Davidson.
Paul married Verona Topping on Nov. 20, 1999 and loved as his own Catherine (Gerry) Offet, Karen Tweed, Darren (Linda) Topping; grandchildren, Stephen (Jessica) Tweed, Brittany (Justin) Levac, Reece and Sawyer Topping and great-granddaughter Seanna Levac. Last but not least the "little heart beat at his feet" Sara.
As Paul requested, an informal Memorial Celebration was held on Tuesday, May 25 with spiritual words by Rev. Derek Nicholls of Regina and a family reflection by Darren with friends welcomed to share their thoughts and memories of Paul. Karen Tweed sang "Summertime", the song that she sang to Paul each night in the hospital.
Refreshments were served to all that shared in the Celebration of Paul's life.

Edwards
-
Robert James (Bob) of Kisbey, Sask. (formerly of Craik, Sask.)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father on May 3, 2010 at the age of 85.
Dad was born on June 20, 1924. He was predeceased by his wife Freda; his parents, William and Maggie Edwards; brother, Bill; sister-in-law, Eunice Edwards; brother-in-law, Warren Bogart; the mother of his children Sylvia and his special pet Sweet Pea.
He is survived by his children, Jim (Carol), Grande Prairie, Alta.; Tom (Robin), Saskatoon; Dennis, Craik; Sue Blight, Kelliher; Linda Edwards, Edmonton, Alta. He is also survived by his very special friend, Faye Seivewright; brother, Doug, Craik; his sister, Peg Bogart, Calgary, Alta.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Dad was born and raised in Craik where he managed the farm after his dad's death in 1943. He had to grow up fast as did many in those days. He eventually headed out on his own and married Sylvia Sanden in February, 1948 and together they raised five children. Unfortunately the marriage ended. Dad married Freda Storey and moved to Kisbey, Sask. in 1980 where he farmed until the fall of 2009. Freda passed away in 1990 and dad later began a special relationship with Faye that has lasted until his passing. Dad loved animals and loved the land. One of his proudest achievements was that he had operated his own farm for 65 years. Dad was a man that people looked up to. He worked hard. Harder than maybe he should have - not taking the doctor's advice when he was told to take it easy and let his body heal. He would say, "There's work to do and if I don't do it, who will?"
He will be sadly missed by us all. Dad...You're one of our heroes!

Martens
- June 26, 1953 - March 3, 2010
Edgar Richert Martens was born in Central Butte on June 26, 1953, to Jake and Helen Martens of Elbow, Sask. Living on the farm east of Elbow gave him opportunity to be involved with the cattle, horses, and field work at a very early age. Edgar started farming with his Dad at age 18.
Edgar married Louise Mielke on October 26, 1974 and they moved to the family farm two miles east of Elbow shortly after. Edgar and Louise continued to farm and raise their sons, Jason and Nathan.
Edgar really enjoyed animals, riding horses in his youth, caring for the farm cattle, and bringing the dogs into the house for treats of cookies and ice cream. He also had a strong work ethic and felt it very important to pass that desire on to his sons, starting by taking them to the field while they were still very young. Edgar also thought it was very important for the boys to be self-sufficient and spent many days teaching them how to butcher and process meat. Edgar was very proud when his sons decided they wanted to farm and he took great pleasure in working the fields alongside them, continuing the farming tradition from his father.
Edgar enjoyed taking the family to Saskatchewan tourist attractions, especially ones about history, and along on lots of visits to family and friends. It was important to him that his children get to know their family roots. He also made a point of taking time to go for early coffee every possible morning to see his friends, catch up on the news, and share in the latest joke. Edgar found history and genealogy very interesting and spent many hours reading and researching family history. As the boys took more responsibility on the farm over the last several years, he and Louise were fortunate to travel to B.C. to get to know distant extended family.
In spite of being diagnosed with and treated for skin cancer five years ago, Edgar continued to work in the fields as much as he was able. While undergoing re-treatment in the spring of 2009, Edgar still tried to work as much as he could and was a vital help during seeding and harvest. Edgar wanted to travel back to B.C. during this winter, but his health did not allow it.
Edgar passed away in the Outlook and District Health Centre on March 3, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife, Louise Martens; his sons, Jason (Jen) Martens and Nathan (Jennifer) Martens, all of Elbow; his mother, Helen Martens of Saskatoon; his brother, Ronald Martens of Elbow; and nephew, Cal (Trina) Martens and their children, Kathrine and Jacob of Moose Jaw; uncles, Peter Martens and Henry (Agnes) Martens of Elbow; and numerous cousins and in-laws.
He was predeceased by his father, Jake Martens; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and in-laws, Fred G. and Mary Mielke.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Elbow, Sask. with Pastor Mike Housek officiating. Margaret Langager was the organist. Interment was held in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Melvin Pederson, Lyle Knutson, Dwayne Richman, Bill Boyle, Del Bergman and Dale Hundeby. Ushers were Victor Bergman and Bert Bramble. Spratt
- Harry Bruce Spratt of Melville, Sask. passed away on Friday, March 19, 2010 in Regina Pasqua Hospital, with his family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 51 years of age.
Harry was born on July 7, 1958 to Rose (Weigel) Spratt and the late Bruce Spratt in Davidson. He attended Davidson School and was a member of the Boy Scouts and had his very own paper route. Like any true Canadian boy, Harry loved hockey. He began his hockey career as a goalie playing minor hockey in Davidson. Eventually, Harry would trade in his goalie pads for a set of "real hockey gloves" playing defense for the Girvin Gophers. Harry was a hard worker on and off the ice. Growing up, he built bins for his uncle Wes Hodgins with Monarch Lumber, pumped gas and was a farm hand for Don Schmiedge and a custom combiner for Don Beckie. Harry would set off on a south of the border adventure with Joe Arend as a custom combiner at the age of 16. Harry eventually returned to Davidson where he began his employment with the Davidson Co-op.
In 1980 Harry met Davidson school dental assistant, LaVerne Harcourt. On July 3, 1982 Harry and LaVerne were married in Quill Lake. Harry and LaVerne made Davidson their home and were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Amy Michelle and Briana Lauren. In 1990 they moved the family to Melville as Harry had accepted a transfer to Prairie Co-op as Lumber Manager. In 1993 the Spratt family expanded, they were blessed with a son, Carter John Bruce.
Harry thoroughly enjoyed watching hockey teams of all ages play, including the Melville Millionaires, but especially whatever teams his favourite player happened to be on ... Carter. He was a dedicated coach and spectator throughout Carter's sports career. Harry also shared his passion for hunting and the outdoors with Carter, son-in-law Kurtis and good friends "Rempel", "Glines", "Sparky" and "Snake". In recent years Harry and LaVerne fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a cabin at Marean Lake.
Harry was very active in his community. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club in Davidson for many years and a member of the Melville District Agri-Park. Between work and various activities, Harry was blessed with many good and true friends over the years.
As much as Harry loved the game of hockey and the outdoors, more than anything Harry loved his family. Harry was always there to lend a helping hand. Whether it was helping his daughter Amy build her dream home, building the ultimate firepit with his daughter Briana, or helping his best friend and brother-in-law Lyle, you knew you could depend on Harry.
Predeceased by his father, Bruce Spratt and his father-in-law Jack Harcourt, Harry leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife LaVerne; children Amy (Kurtis) Lopinski, Briana Spratt (Dave Bergeron) and Carter Spratt; mother Rose Spratt and mother-in-law Bea Harcourt; sister Callie (Grant) Greenshields, Charlotte, Tom (Ashley) and Kathryn; sister Janet (Lyle) Kowalski, Rich, Chris and Mike; brother-in-law Keith (Wendy) Harcourt, Astrid (Chad) Woodard, Fynn, Paxton, Kallie (Jordan) Calhoun and Brynley; sister-in-law Noreen (Darryl) Manz, Brady and Britney (Jared); brother-in-law David (Inge) Harcourt, MacKenzie and Logan.

Brkich
- It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Joseph Nicholas Brkich on March 16, 2010 at the Davidson Health Centre.
Joe was born on the homestead at Bladworth on March 17, 1929. He was the fifth of nine children born to Jacob and Frances Brkich. In 1945 they bought and moved to the present family farm. June 6, 1957 is when he married the love of his life, Doris Achtzener of Regina and had three children, Greg, Dianne and Linda. He farmed all of his life and loved it. He believed there was no better way of life.
In his younger days he was an avid curler and his love for hockey led him to coach for many years. That was where he acquired his nickname "Punch". Some years later he even held his own hockey draft.
His outgoing personality was perfectly suited to his enjoyment of bartending. Whether it be at the Bladworth Bar, a wedding dance, or a community function, he could always be seen with a bar towel slung over his shoulder. Joe loved having people around whether it was during the winter months when the pool table was set up in the kitchen or in the summer with Sunday fishing trips. But never was it more evident than with his St. Patrick's Day birthday parties. Making sure the pool table and shuffleboard table were ready to go, Irish music on the stereo and Doris in the kitchen cooking up a feast.
He was a charter member of the Bladworth Elks and enjoyed going to the meetings for fellowship. He was an avid collector of many things but most notable was his extensive hat collection. He enjoyed sharing his memories from his threshing days, his get-togethers with neighbours and of listening to Foster Hewitt on the radio.
In his later years he received a lot of enjoyment from watching one of his many classic movies and playing with his grandsons. They were the light of his life.
Joe is survived by his son, Greg Brkich of Bladworth; daughters, Dianne (Calvin) Murfitt of Davidson and Linda Warner of Rainbow Lake, Alta.; grandsons, Cole and Clay Murfitt. He is also survived by sisters, Anne Brkich, Edmonton, Alta., Elizabeth Sheppard, Camrose, Alta., Theresa (Barry) Tether, Victoria, B.C., Vera Bencze, Regina, Sask. and Rita (Terry) Anderson, Victoria, B.C.; sister-in-law, Gerry Boehlen, Regina, Sask.; brother-in-law, Harvie Webster, Regina, Sask. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe is predeceased by his loving wife, Doris; parents, Frances and Jacob; brother, John; sisters, Pauline Webster and Matilda Brehm; brothers-in-law, Michael Brehm, Hugh Sheppard and Fred Boehlen.
The funeral service was held on March 23, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church in Kenaston, Sask. Lunch and fellowship followed at the Bladworth Elks Hall.
Hanson's Funeral Home, Davidson, Sask. was in care of arrangements.

She loved to read and worked many years in the Davidson School libraries.
Ever patient, always kind, she found her life's contentment in making her family and others happy. Esther is predeceased by her husband, Edgar Robert Willner. She lives on in the loving memories and hearts of her family of three sons and three daughters, 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Arlene (Eugene) Sorochuk of Norquay and family, Loraine (Travis) Polischuk, Nate and Kael, Coralie Sorochuk, Lesia (Dustin) Friesen and Colleen Sorochuk; Lorne (Marilyn) Willner of Davidson and family, Brady Willner, Lyndon Willner and Linnea Willner; Terry Riviere of Saskatoon and family, Danielle (Danton) Danielson, Robert Riviere and Michelle Riviere; Beryl Lepage and family, Paul Lepage, David Lepage, Mark Lepage and Katy Lepage; Randy (Debbie Murray) and family, Jeff Willner, Jason Willner and Jordan Willner; and Brian (Georgina) Willner of Olympia, Washington. Ouellette, Hetty
- Frances Henrietta Ouellette (nee Murphy) November 13, 1927 - February 3, 2010.
Hetty died peacefully at the ICU in St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon, Sask. on Feb. 3, 2010. She was born in Dodsland Hospital on Nov. 13, 1927, daughter of Fred and Frances Murphy. She was the sixth child in a family of ten. She attended Algoma School until Grade ten; then St. Joseph's Convent at Rosetown for Grades 11 and 12, graduating in 1946.
In Feb. 1947 she went into training at St. Paul's Hospital graduating in 1950. She used her nursing skills at Eatonia, Meadow Lake, Dodsland and Davidson, Sask. She was the matron of Davidson Hospital. At that time, she helped care for Corinne and Colleen Parks, a set of twins who needed lots of TLC before they could leave the hospital.
She was married on June 1, 1953 to Stan Ouellette at Kerrobert, Sask. They lived in Kenaston in several houses, at the Wopchall farm six miles west of Kenaston and finally into the Ouellette homestead house in 1963. Stan and Hetty had six children. The children enjoyed the convenience of living in town but were able to have the space and luxury of living on a farm because we had the barn to play in the loft and the pasture to ride horses and snare gophers.
Hetty returned to full-time nursing in 1968 to supplement the farm income and retired in 1991. Being a nurse in a small town is like being a doctor. She was always "on call" in Kenaston, when people needed her for sickness and accidents. In 1988 Hetty received the Heart of Gold award for outstanding service to her community.
Her husband Stan passed away in 1996. Hetty found this change very hard but in her usual strong-willed manner she moved forward. She continued to be present on the Community Housing Board. She was an active choir member at St. Andrews. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She will be fondly remembered for her dill pickles and apple butter. Her children and grandchildren were her joy and focus. Many a story can be told of memories of Mom and Grandma. Stan and Hetty Ouellette are survived by their children, Brian (Angelika), Greg (Carolyn), Cyndy (Claus) Spielmann, Kevin (Debra), Heather (Lorne) Lowdermilk and Colin (Cory) Ouellette; grandchildren, Jay, Dallas, Ryan, Amanda, Braden, Darren, Ellen, Timothy, Jesse, Riley, Ashley and Johnny; great-grandchildren, Taya and Gabriel; siblings, Isabelle, Josephine (Wilfred), Sister Irene, Mildred, Madge (Peter), Bud (Bernie) and Dennis (Helen); sister-in-law, Irene and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hetty is predeceased by her husband Stan; brothers, Wilfred and Patrick; and parents Fred and Frances Murphy.
A celebration of Hetty's life was held on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's Parish in Kenaston, Sask. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Hospital Foundation Inc., Saskatoon, Sask. or the St. Andrew's Cemetery Fund.

He shared this passion with the love of his life, Donna, as well as horseback riding and the RV lifestyle always finding time to visit friends and family. Edward is also a very spiritual and religious man and an active member of the United Church. He was given the gifts of creativity and artistic talent which helped him express his love for God, the land and the world he loved.
